In my last blog post I told you I will be telling you the special drinks and foods that you need to add to your meals as a replacement for diet or slimming pills.
Now pay special attention as I discuss each of them.

Green Tea

Have you noticed how slim the Chinese people are? The ones I have seen personally at special places like the Airports, Hotels and business locations around the country are very lean and statistics have it that they equally live very long.
Could it be that the Chinese people are lean because they take a lot of green tea especially after meal? Maybe.
Here is the truth, Green tea is a fat burning beverage among many other multiple health benefits it possesses. It is also a very powerful anti-oxidant.
Do you know that a popular statistic shows that drinking green tea helps to burn up to 200 more calories per day when compared with water? What is more, the calories burnt are from the fat in the body and not protein or carbohydrates.
The reason green tea helps in speeding up metabolism for fast fat burning is because it has a complex compound called Epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG.
This compound EGCG has been used to experiment with various animals and it shows that it prevents obesity, decreases fat production and have the potential of fighting free radicals in the body.
When green tea is taken anytime of the day, it causes increased calorie burning, oxidation of fat, modifies appetite and decreases calorie absorption in the body. The effect is a drastic fat-burning system which helps you to reduce body weight and fat levels.

Oh I love the taste of Coffee. Caffeine over the course of hundreds of years has been used as a beverage or as a pill to boost metabolism and increase energy levels.
Several news reports and scientific data has shown that Caffeine has the ability to help people work longer hours at night, and make fewer mistakes while on the job. It also helps one in doing better in tasks requiring reasoning, memory alertness and rapt attention.
Some people may be allergic to Caffeine and if that is the case, don’t use or take any drink that has Caffeine. But Caffeine is by no means dangerous in reasonable amount, except when taken in too much dozes.

Caffeine, when taken as a tea or coffee can be helpful in appetite reduction and increases the oxidation of fat resulting in reduced calorie intake thus decreasing body fat.
Other benefits of Caffeine is that it improves exercise performance thus allowing you to work harder for longer time which in effect creates a huge calorie deficit and enhance fat burn in the process of exercising.

Egg Yolk And The Incredible Choline Component
I bet you may never have come across that term Choline. Well, Choline is a special nutrient that is necessary in the breakdown and removing of fats from our bodies and it is found in highest condensed quantities in eggs. Unfortunately, many are afraid that egg yolk is the major culprit for cholesterol and too many lies has been told that eating eggs is “Unhealthy”. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Sadly, those who refuse to eat eggs are not benefiting from the powerful fat burning dietary component that is necessary in the body for this purpose.
Choline helps to remove fat produced in the liver, or eaten in our diets and transport this to other cells in the body where it is burned and used up for energy. Hence, if one lack Choline as a result of not consuming adequate quantities of eggs in our diets, we accumulate fats in places we don’t want or need it (especially the liver), no matter how hard we work to prevent it.
Research studies shows that to protect the liver from fat, a man needs 550mg/day of Choline, while women need 425mg/day. From that calculation, a man needs an average 4 eggs per day, while a woman need about 3 eggs per day to be healthy. However, in most cases, an intake of 3 eggs per day is okay for both sexes.
You can see that many people lack this vital component because of mainstream preaching that egg yolk is bad for health.
Other health benefits of eating eggs shows that it enhances cognitive functioning and development of the nervous system. The importance of choline in the growth of a new baby is supported by observations that a human fetus receives a large supply of choline during gestation; and large amounts of choline are present in human breast milk.
A recent human study conducted by Tennessee researchers in the U.S demonstrated that choline supplementation for three weeks resulted in enhanced fatty acid oxidation (fat cell burning) during exercise, and significantly reduced body weight.
Therefore, if you’re looking to keep your body lean, not just in external fat depots, but also your necessary organs, choline is your nutrient of choice, make eating eggs a necessary diet from henceforth.
Sea Foods (Crabs, shrimps, lobster etc) and Chitosan Components
There is a component called Chitosan found in shells of crustaceans that is believed to have significant effect on weight loss. Well to confirm this, some researchers in the US carried out an experiment to see the effect of Chitosan on weight loss.
59 Over-weight people with an average BMI (Body Mass Index, – a topic for another day) of 32kg/m2 were randomly selected to receive 1500mg of Chitosan twice daily for 28 days while following their normal diet.
At the end of the study, it was noticed that the randomly selected individuals lost an average 1kg and BMI was significantly reduced by 0.3kg/m2.
This study shows that Chitosan might help to prevent people from gaining fat if they continue to eat fattening foods that people see as normal like ice cream, plenty carbohydrate, burgers, and sugary foods. However, why eat these foods if you want to lose weight?
When you add these sea food components in your diet, and maintain a healthy lifestyle, you will surely see a significant boost in your weight loss endeavour.
There are other foods that helps to burn fat here in Nigeria that are locally sourced as well, but we will be stopping here as this article is already getting too long.
