Is Honey Good For You

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) contains almost equal amounts of glucose and fructose.   But keep in mind that fructose is processed in the liver.   If there is too much fructose, your liver can’t process it as a sugar, but will turn the excess fructose into fats, and this causes your cells to be insulin resistant.   More fat is released from the liver after metabolizing fructose from HFCS, which causes more fat storage, which in turn adds to obesity.  This type of fat (around the organs) that fructose causes is the worst kind of fat.  This is the reason that high fructose corn syrup can lead to diabetes.  But is there a better alternative?
Is honey good for you?  Well, it’s true that honey contains  ”sugar” but not all sugars are equal.  The sugar in honey is natural and also contains vitamins and minerals that help your body to metabolize it.  This amazing natural liquid contains minerals like zinc, potassium phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, copper and various vitamins like B6, thiamin and niacin, and certain amino acids.  Honey also provides energy for your body, and therefore, helps you to recover from strenuous workouts.
Honey is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.  These qualities make it an excellent product to use in cosmetics and hair care products, medicine,  weight loss,  tooth and gum health, allergies, sleep problems, and a host of other uses, including the use of bee products for your home.   Honey was used back in ancient times, and it was prized for its delicious flavor.   It is receiving a lot of attention lately due to its many outstanding qualities.  A humble ingredient with a powerful punch.  And, I forgot to mention that it is essential in many scrumptious recipes, or if you prefer, you can eat it right out of the jar.
So, back to the question – “Is honey good for you?”  Absolutely, yes.  It is a product that has stood the test of time, having been around since the beginning of time.  It is essentially, a perfect food!
But, keep in mind that too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.  Honey, like all other healthy products, should be taken in moderation.    Also, it has been advised that babies one year old and under should not take honey.
With all the different ways to incorporate honey in your life, which way is your favorite?    Although it’s hard for me to choose a favorite, I suppose my #1 favorite  is cosmetically.  Then again, I love to eat it, too!  I use it in so many different ways, such as masks, scrubs, and baths.  My skin thanks me everyday, and I always receive compliments on my “glow” :-)
